Days 2 & 3: Meetings and Pools and Humidity.

Okay. Like I know that Florida is hot (and is going to get even hotter), but this is ridiculous. I don't think my body even knows what to do with all of this humidity because even when i'm not feeling like i'm warm there's just sweat rolling down my face at all times of the day. I swear I look like I'm trying to burn off a fever or something. I think it may be the humidity....thanks Florida. Isn't sweat supposed to clean out your glands or something? I'll just take it as living in a giant, city-sized sauna.

But anyway...

Yesterday we finally got to sleep in....and I still woke up at 8am. It was nice to be able to sit down, relax, drink coffee with the roommates, and eat breakfast. We were all exhausted from travel, moving in, etc. so it was good that we didn't have anything until later that day.

We found out that Disney Housing was having a pool party at the Commons from 11am-2pm, so a few of us went over to check it out. We didn't have swimsuits on, so we just kind of hung out, and I left early because it was so hot and I was so tired.

At 4pm we had a housing meeting, where they discussed housing rules, what you are and are not allowed to do, etc. It felt like an all-rez meeting - but with more disney and better, which is great! haha! It lasted like 2 hours, so we got home at like almost 6pm, took turns making dinner (because we only have one frying pan....which is a huge pain), and then heading to downtown disney! We met a couple of college programmers from California on the bus who have been here for almost a month. It throws me off how friendly and welcoming people are on the cast buses! I love it! Every time we get on we meet someone new and get the opportunity to hear about they're role and what they like about it!

Room/Apartment Mates in front of our new home!!!! YAY! Cannot believe I only met these girls this week!

We went to Downtown Disney to window shop and basically just get out of the apartment, because we won't be able to get into the parks until at lease tomorrow after traditions. It was our first time doing something with all six of us because Meagan and Cora both had their dad's here so they did stuff with them on their first day while we went to the Poly for wishes. It's so hard going into Disney stores and not buying anything because we really want it all - but we want to wait until we can get discounts, and we haven't officially started working yet so we have limited spending money. We have three months to shop though, so I think we'll be fine!

This morning we had an Immigration Compliance meeting, which was really short and simple. We just have to submit a cultural experience every month, which is just 3 for us!

After the meeting, Tamsin, Val, and I headed out to Patterson's pool to swim and soak up the sun! :)

When we came back from the pool we had lunch, and now I'm waiting to go to a paperwork appointment at Vista Way with Val, with a possible trip to dollar tree after! I think tonight I'm just planning on relaxing, depending on how early we have to be up for traditions tomorrow. I can't believe this move-in week is coming to a close! Somehow it feels like we've been in Florida forever, yet like we only just got here. Loving the weather (despite sweating even when I'm not all that hot - thank you humidity) and loving Disney! This is going to be such a great summer!

Finally in Orlando!

In case you were wondering, I've made it to Florida and I'm alive and well! If you want to keep up with my adventures and tales in disney, here's the place :)

So at 4am this morning I was awake, got ready, and headed to the airport! After a couple of really rough nights not sleeping (and waking up yesterday morning at 6am for no apparent reason), I was already extremely tired. Said goodbye to my parents at security, boarded the plane in St. John's and I was officially on my way!

I went through customs in Newark Liberty Airport....which was scare #1 when my passport wouldn't scan, but apparently it was just a glitch because I was coming in on a J1 Visa. Scare #2 came quickly after when I was so disoriented being in an unfamiliar airport and forgetting that I had water in my water bottle, so i had to go through security twice...the second time while crying. (again, very little sleep = emotional Sarah).

SO after that little hiccup, I finally found my way to my gate. THEN I found out that the plane was broken, so we had to switch gates. THEN we had a boarding delay. THEN once we finally boarded the plane, we ended up sitting there for over an hour to reload the luggage. Finally we took off, and two hours later I landed in orlando!

I've met up with three of the girls I'm sharing a hotel with for the night, had chick fil a, and now we're going to watch tangled in the hotel's kid's theatre!

Countdown to Disney: Tell everybody I'm ON MY WAY!

Hey Guys!
So yesterday morning (after tossing and turning all night) my parents and I made the trek to St. John's for a little pre-trip before I fly out on Monday! We got in around lunchtime to do some shopping and I met up with a friend to FINALLY see the new Avengers movie! It was so good and full of action (and hawkeye, whom I adore). I'm still iffy on the whole Natasha/Bruce story line, just because it seems so out of place and out of character. I always feel like Nat is just pretending to love him to help the team...but I could be wrong!

This morning I woke up at 6am for no apparent reason, but it was nice being able to read and relax. I have a feeling I won't be doing a whole lot of that over the next little while. Today we're  just kind of hanging around, going to costco, and picking up some last minute things so I'm all packed and ready to go bright and early tomorrow morning! I'm so happy I only have one stopover in New York. Even though I LOVE airports and people watching, I have a feeling I am going to be ridiculously exhausted tomorrow.
Although I'm not checking into Disney Housing until Tuesday, I'm meeting up with some other girls at the airport and we're going to stay in a hotel overnight so we can go over to Vista Way together! Yay for not being alone and/or lost! (here's hoping we can find each other in the Orlando Airport!)

After months and months and months of planning and worrying it blows my mind that all of this is actually happening! Here's hoping my program doesn't go as fast as these past three months have!

if you give a girl a needle....

....she will learn how to sew!

I've been super busy - with finishing up my internship (AND COMPLETING MY DEGREE!!!!), moving back home for a couple of weeks until I move to Disney(!!), and spending lots of quality time with my sister + baby nephew there hasn't been much time to sit down and do anything, really! I HAVE, however, had time to become more confident in my sewing skills - and even tackled a few projects!

1) DIY'ing: I am happy to report that I have made my first article of clothing! I picked up a pattern and this retro telephone print material and set out to make a skirt. I was completely unsure of how it was going to turn out, and kept praying that I didn't just waste $40 and 2 days working on it.

Result: I AM IN LOVE! This skirt is perfect - and I'm really feeling those 50s housewife vibes. I paired it with a black 3/4 length sleeve shirt and a jean jacket for church on the sunday after it was finished. Add a red lip, heels, and some curls and I honestly felt like a million dollars! This style is completely different from my norm - but I think I have finally found my own personal style!

Speaking of dressing outside of my comfort zone: these shoes. I had credits on JustFab (because i have a terrible memory and forgot to skip months), and I needed some new sandals for this summer. When I saw these I thought - well, i love them. but I have no idea how to wear them, if they suit me, etc etc. But I decided to go with my gut - and i am in LOVE. they're a little retro, not too small (the biggest problem i have with shoes), and adorable. I also don't own a single pair of nude shoes, so that's a bonus!

like, how adorable are these?

Finally, here's a sneak peak of my latest sewing adventure. I am SO tired of not being able to find what I want, so i'm determined to make as much of my own stuff from now on. it is so rewarding to be able to say "I made that!" when you're wearing or toting around something!

tonight I've begun to tackle packing up my entire life into one suitcase....and it is proving to be quite the task! i'll make sure to take some pictures of the process and keep y'all updated! 16 more days until orlando!

driving through the {fog}

lately, i've been worried.

i've been concerned, mainly, with where i'm going - both in the near and distant future - how in the world am i'm going to get there from where i am right now.

this past weekend, while driving to a pastor's conference, it hit me. literally, and figuratively.

fog.

the kind that makes it impossible to see more than 5 feet in front of you.
the kind that distorts your vision.
the kind that makes everything - even the things you know are most certain - seem a little blurry.

i mean, i could see for the most part. i could see the outline of green highway signs, the of other lights and signs that were coming up.

but my vision was still blurry.

i knew that i was heading in the right direction, i knew that my destination would remain unchanged.

but i was still scared.

i've been living my life lately in a fog - i know (sort of) what my final destination is, but i've been waiting for signs or lights or anything that would guide me to the next checkpoint.

i've only been able to see the path under my feet - not much further than finishing this semester, next semester, graduation in april.

i can't see what's next - i might see the glow of lights somewhere in the distance that tell me where i am, i might see a sign, but i can't make out what it says quite yet.

but i am thankful that God is still with me, even when the road is foggy. i'm even more thankful that he is the one that directs me:

"Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light onto my path." (Ps 119:105)

Grabbing hold to God's word gives light to our path - the only way to combat the fog that we encounter on our journeys. He's got plans and promises for our lives, twists and turns in the road, but we can trust that He is perfect in all of his plans for us!

life updates!

so after a couple of weeks of insanity, this semester is finally drawing to a close.

officially down to 3 papers, 1 final exam, and a piano recital and i will be finished with my 3rd year of univeristy! craaaazy.

so here's just an update on life in general - mostly from my instagram, if you follow me there!

this week i had to present a paper in my 4th level seminar course  - aka the scariest course i've ever taken! i was so stressed out over it, and i was like 100% sure i was going to fail it, and it didn't help that my prof is a scholar on the topic i chose! scary! BUT i handed in my paper, and did my presentation and he said i did really well! Got my results back yesterday and he gave me an A on both the paper and the presentation! now i only have to revise my paper and hand it in as a final draft and i'll be DONE with this course!

last weekend i took some time to blow off some stress the best way i know how - shopping downtown TO! i love going down to the eaton center and walking around dundas/yonge exploring a bit by myself! it's so relaxing. i picked up this book by Jefferson Bethke, and i'm really enjoying it! He's a really well-spoken writer, and even though i usually find it really hard to read what i call "Jesus books", i'm over halfway done with this one! there's something about how genuine and real he is that i really appreciate!

last night i got to spend some time shopping with my baby "sister", catching up on her life, and talking about our pasts, dreams, and the future. we've been friends for so long, it's not hard to spend 5 hours talking about everything, and thats basically what we did! went shopping, stopped for some starbucks (Passion Tea Lemonade just happens to abbreviate into PTL - praise the Lord! which made us both laugh a lot), got some free creme eggs from some very attractive men in bunny ears, and eventually made it to pickle barrel for wings and nachos! so good, but i forgot to take a snap of it! i love catching up with this girl, even though we live in the same building, we always have something to talk about!

finally, here's a selfie from this morning! new earrings (thank you forever21 for 30% off jewellery!), and awaiting spring to be here already! Now i'm off to do some reading and research for one of my final papers! two weeks of class left to the semester!!

see you lovelies later :)
